Overview:

You should understand the shift from feudalism to chivalry. read the short excerpts on p.210 for a good literary example fo the differences. Roland represents the earlier view of feudalism and Guinevere represents the "elightened" view of chivalry.


Questions:

a. What role did the Crusades play in te transition from feudalism to chivalry?

b. Do aspects of chivalry and/or courtly love remain in our culture today?

c. How did the ideas of Aristotle make it back into the western Phiospohic tradition after being "lost" during the wanning years of the Roman Empire?
