Library Services for Distance Learners

Welcome to the library web page for distance education. The library is committed to providing you the same excellent service our on-campus students have come to expect. These services are available on the library home page at http://www.li.suu.edu.

Resources:

• Book Catalogs: Distance learners have access to the Sherratt Library Catalog and all other university and college catalogs in Utah.
• Article Databases: Distance learners have free access to full text library article databases to find journal, magazine and newspaper articles.
• Most of the databases are available from your home or office. Every student must obtain a username and password which is necessary to log into the databases. If you don’t have a username and password, call: 435-865-8052.
  

Some databases will require the off campus access. Click on this link and follow the instructions.

In addition to the library article databases above, all Utah residents have access to Utah Pioneer. The access code for the Pioneer databases is I1P84720.

Electronic Reserve: Students have 24/7 access to articles and papers placed on reserve by faculty members. Search for articles by department or instructors name.

Services:

• Circulation: Distance learning students may search the online catalog and request material through interlibrary loan with the Sherratt Library on-line form.
  Students can search the online catalogs of all academic libraries in Utah from the Sherratt Library web page. Go to books and click on the other libraries link to take you to other libraries in Utah.
• Reference Services: Reference assistance is available to all distance education students. Help is available by dropping in at the library reference desk weekdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, additional evening hours Monday through Thursday 6:00 until 9:00 pm. Call the reference desk during the above hours at 435 586-8040, or e-mail your question to questions@suu.edu and your questions will be answered as soon as possible. (within two working days) while school is in session.
• Library Instruction: An online course, LM 1010 on using the library and its services is available each semester. This is an open access course that will enhance information literacy skills for distance learners.
• Document Delivery: Library material is available to distance learners through interlibrary loan. Books in the Sherratt library, articles and other materials can be ordered with the online form on this page. Books and articles owned by the Sherratt library will be mailed or faxed to distance learners as soon as possible after receipt of the interlibrary loan request. Books and articles borrowed from other libraries will take longer to provide. Every effort will be made to obtain materials free of charge from other libraries. In some instances, libraries charge for loans and these charges will be passed on to the requester.
  ILLiad is an article delivery system that provides quick turnaround on articles not owned by the Sherratt library but owned by other libraries in the state. There is no charge to students, faculty, or staff for this service.

Reciprocal borrowing is available in person with a valid student ID card from any academic library in Utah or Nevada.
