Top Things Every Student Should Know About Campus Technology at SUU

  1. Save your work on the network drive (F:) when using campus computers -- If you save your work on the C: drive, you'll have to return to that same machine to retrieve your work (if no one has deleted it). By saving files on the network drive (F:), you have access to them anywhere on or off campus (for off campus access see #2).

  2. You can access your network drive (F:) from off campus by using NetStorage. Go to the SUU homepage, choose Current Students, then NetStorage or go directly to http://netstorage.suu.edu. Logon with your campus username and password. You’ll have access to your F: drive (shown as Home@SUUNET) and the G: drive (shown as DriveG@CLASSES) where your professors may have class materials available.

  3. Learn to use SUUMail, the e-mail and calendar software available on campus. Accessible from the SUU homepage, then Current Students, then SUUMail, http://www.suu.edu/it/comp/ netmail.html. It will help you keep track of due dates and communicate with your instructors.

If you prefer to use another e-mail address such as AOL, MSN, Hotmail or Yahoo, you can configure your SUUMAIL to automatically forward all e-mail to that e-mail address. Here is how to set up automatic forwarding of your SUUMAIL messages to another account:

    1. Login to your SUUMAIL account (http://suumail.net)
    2. Click Options, Rules, then in Select the Type of Rule to Create: click Forward To.
    3. Change From to To in the first box.
    4. Leave the Contains box empty.
    5. In the Forward to: box type the email address where you want the mail forwarded.
    6. Click Apply.

If you change your preferred e-mail address, you will need to change your SUUMAIL forwarding rule to continue having mail forwarded.

To remove automatic forwarding, in the Options toolbar, click Rules, then delete.

  4. Wireless network access is available throughout the campus. If you have a laptop that requires a cable to connect to the network, the second floor in the library or the Sharwan Smith Center is where you should go. If you use a laptop computer, wireless access to the SUU network is available as encrypted logon or non-encrypted guest access. Go to the SUU homepage, choose Current Students, Campus Computing, Wireless/Wired to get information on setup. Print two pages per sheet to effectively double your print balance (each student is allotted 200 sheets per semester). Do this by clicking on the Properties button within the print dialog box. Choose 2 pages per sheet.

  5. Web space is available to all students. Create a new folder in your F drive called "public_html". This will be where your web pages reside. To access from the World Wide Web, go to http://www.student.suu.edu/~username/

  6. Learn how to find out where campus computer labs are located and when they are open. Check at http://www.suu.edu/it/comp/

  7. Your network password is used to logon to campus computers, your WebCT classes, NetStorage, SUUMail, and library databases. Go to the SUU homepage, choose Current Students, Campus Computing, Passwords to look up your username and change your network password.
